ETC Unveils Hog 4 Version 4.0 Software – Revolutionizing Color Control in Lighting

ETC, a longstanding strategic partner of Oasis Enterprises for lighting and rigging technology, has announced the release of Hog 4 OS version 4.0, a substantial advancement in lighting control that centers on a comprehensive reworking of color handling across the console.

At the core of this release is a revamped color mixing system extending through nearly every component of the Hog 4 OS, including the fixture library, color picker, gels, palettes, effects, plots, pixel mapping, and color playback. Native support for HS, xyY, CMY, and all additive color engines gives operators genuine flexibility in how they approach color output, whether working through intuitive hue and saturation controls, precise chromaticity coordinates, or subtractive mixing. The console now accommodates a broader range of professional workflows without compromising on precision.

The Color Picker window has been redesigned with a tabbed interface, providing operators with an expanded suite of controls for blending color across diverse fixture types. A new “Color Mix” preview column further refines this experience, offering clearer visibility into color output and reducing the guesswork that can slow down operational workflows.

Version 4.0 also introduces the Record Defaults function, allowing operators to establish default values for fixtures with considerably greater efficiency than previous methods permitted. The Fixture Builder has likewise been enhanced, with additional basic-mode templates and expanded user-editable fields giving operators finer control over fixture configuration.

Compatibility extends across all generations of Hog 4 hardware, though this release requires initiating a new show file rather than migrating an existing one. Given the extent of the changes to color workflow, we recommend that operators familiarize themselves thoroughly with the new functions before deploying version 4.0 on a live production. A future release will introduce the ability to export data from v3.x show files for import into v4.x, easing this transition further.
